The founder of Doctor Birring Eyecare, Dr. Manpreet S. Birring, is a renowned Optometrist with over 25 years of experience in family eye care, contact lenses, and binocular vision. Dr. Birring is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. He is an authorized Doctor of Optometry.

After practising comprehensive optometry in India and Southern Africa for 16 years, he opened up his practice in Malton and has been serving the community since 2006, along with three Associate Doctors and their supporting staff, ever since. His passion for the field of optometry is reflected in his work and the awards he has received.

Dr. Gurman Gill completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science and her Optometry degree from Aston University in Birmingham, England. She practiced in London, England, for two years, where she gained valuable experience before returning to her hometown of Toronto. There she completed the International Optometric Bridging Program at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science.

Dr. Gill is certified by the Board of Examiners in Optometry in Canada and the use of Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPAs) in Canada. Her scope of interest is in preventative eye health and providing excellent comprehensive vision care to individuals of all ages. She always welcomes new patients and is fluent in English, Punjabi and Hindi.

In her spare time, Dr. Gill loves to spend time with her family and watch horror movies—the scarier, the better!

Dr. Cheema-Brar completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto with a double major in Economics and Biology. Although this mix of majors is unconventional, she was deeply interested in both areas of study. She then ventured to the United Kingdom, where she completed her optometry degree at Aston University. Upon returning to Canada, she completed the IOBP program at the University of Waterloo, where she was also board certified in the use and distribution of therapeutic agents.

Dr. Cheema-Brar actively practices all optometry areas, including, but not limited to, diabetic screening, cataract and glaucoma assessment and management, binocular vision issues, contact lenses, and dry eye therapy. She does, however, have a particular interest in pediatrics with an emphasis on amblyopia.

In her free time, Dr. Cheema-Brar enjoys spending time with her two young daughters and husband.

Maria has been with Dr. Manpreet Birring and Associates for almost 19 years. Maria’s dedicated work ethic and deep care for our patients and practice make her an incredible asset to the team. She readily assists patients with all their questions and works to understand their needs. With Maria in the office, our patients are greeted with a smile so big you can even hear it over the phone! She is also fluent in Portuguese.
